Last updated 27 July 2026 · Version 1.0
In short
- We collect what is needed to plan your darshan and little else: a name, a number we can reach you on, where to collect you, and who is travelling.
- We never ask for card numbers, UPI PINs, OTPs or bank passwords. Our website has no payment page and cannot take a payment at all.
- Bookings are confirmed over WhatsApp, so that conversation sits with Meta under their privacy terms as well as ours.
- Anyone holding the QR code on your darshan ticket can see the handful of details printed on the front of it — never your phone number, payment or fellow travellers.
- We use two analytics tools to understand how the website is used. Everything you type into a form is masked before it leaves your browser, and your phone number is deliberately never used to identify you in them.
- You can ask us what we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted. Message +91 89764 23389 and we will act within 30 days.
This summary is for convenience only. The numbered clauses below are what apply.
1.Who we are, and what this policy covers
Mumbai Temple Darshan is a private temple darshan and sightseeing tour operator based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, operating since 2019. We arrange private air-conditioned vehicles, hotel pickup and drop, and guidance for temple visits in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai, and on outstation pilgrimages to Shirdi and Pune. In the language of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we are the data fiduciary for the personal data described in this policy, and you are the data principal.
This policy applies to:
- our website at mumbaitempledarshan.com, including the booking form, the darshan guides and the temple pages;
- conversations you have with us on WhatsApp, by telephone or by email;
- the internal booking system our staff use to register a confirmed booking and print your darshan ticket. You never log in to it, but if you travel with us your details are held there;
- the ticket verification page your QR code points to.
It does not cover, and we are not responsible for, the privacy practices of:
- temple trusts and their websites — for example when you book an official pooja or a darshan pass directly with a temple's own portal;
- WhatsApp and Meta, whose messaging service we use as our main booking channel;
- hotels, restaurants and other providers, including a hotel we book on your instruction;
- any other website we link to from our guides.
Reading the website does not require you to give us anything. You only give us personal information if you choose to enquire, book or write to us.
2.What we collect
2.1 · When you use the booking form on our website
The form asks four short questions and then for your contact details:
- Which journey interests you — Mumbai temples, Shirdi, Dagdusheth Ganpati in Pune, or "not sure, help me pick".
- Who is travelling — family, elderly parents, friends or a corporate group — and how many of you there are.
- When you are thinking of travelling — this week, this month, or still planning.
- Your name and a phone number, which are required so that we can reply.
- Your email address, the area or hotel we should collect you from, and any special requests — all optional. The requests box is where guests tell us about a special pooja, elderly travellers, wheelchair access or a preferred start time.
We save your answers step by step as you move through the form, before you press the final button. This is so that a dropped connection does not cost you the whole form. It also means that if you start the form and leave without finishing, the answers you had already given stay with us as an incomplete enquiry. We treat those exactly as we treat completed ones, and you can ask us to delete yours.
After you submit, we offer one optional question — whether anything nearly stopped you from booking. It is free text, it is genuinely optional, and we use it only to improve how we explain our service.
2.2 · What the website records automatically
To understand how people find and use the site, and to be able to answer "where did this enquiry come from", the website records:
- the page you arrived on, the website or search engine that referred you, and any campaign tags in the link you followed;
- the pages you view during a visit — up to the most recent twenty;
- an anonymous analytics identifier, which is a random string, not your name or number;
- standard technical information collected by our analytics tools: device type, browser, operating system, screen size, and an approximate city-level location worked out from your IP address.
The first three are kept in your browser's own session storage while you browse, and are attached to your enquiry only if you go on to make one. We do not receive precise or satellite location from your device, and we never ask for location permission.
2.3 · When you contact us on WhatsApp, by phone or by email
We receive your phone number or email address, the name shown on your WhatsApp profile, and whatever you choose to tell us in the conversation — including any photographs or files you send.
Please do not send us scans of your passport, Aadhaar, PAN or any other identity document. We do not need them and do not want to hold them. We ask you to carry a photo ID on the day of your tour; we never ask you to send one to us. If you send one anyway, we will delete it.
2.4 · When your booking is confirmed
Once you confirm, a member of our team creates a booking record so that your ticket can be issued and your day planned. It holds:
- About you — name, phone number, WhatsApp number, email address if you gave one, your city, and how you came to us (walk-in, WhatsApp, call, referral, Instagram or the website).
- About the trip — the package, the date, the pickup time and pickup address, the number of adults and children, the vehicle arranged, your preferred guide language, and any notes about what to plan around.
- About the people travelling — the full name, age and gender of every person on the tour. We need these to print the ticket, to confirm the headcount the price is based on, and to plan properly where there are young children or elderly guests.
- About payment — the total, any advance paid, the method used, and a reference such as a UPI transaction number or receipt number. We record what was paid and how; we never hold the instrument itself.
- About the record — your pass number, the random code that makes your ticket verifiable, and which member of our team created it.
If you tell us about a mobility need, a health condition or a dietary requirement so that we can plan around it, we use it only for that purpose, share it only with the driver or guide who needs to know, and remove it when we remove the traveller details for that booking.
2.5 · What we never ask for, and never hold
We do not collect, and have no way to store:
- card numbers, expiry dates or CVV codes;
- UPI PINs, net-banking passwords, or one-time passwords;
- identity document numbers or scans;
- your caste, your religious affiliation beyond the journey you have chosen, or any health record.
Our website contains no payment page and is not connected to any payment gateway. Nobody acting for us will ever ask you for a PIN, a password or an OTP. Anyone who does is not us — see clause 11 of the Booking & Payment Policy.
3.Information about the other people in your group
Most of our bookings are made by one person for a family or a group. If you are that person, you are giving us personal information about other people, and two things follow.
- 3.1By giving us their details, you confirm that you have their permission to do so, and that for anyone under 18 you are their parent or lawful guardian, or have that person's authority.
- 3.2Please make sure they know we hold their name, age and gender for the booking, and point them to this policy. We are happy for you to forward it.
Anyone travelling with you may contact us directly to see, correct or delete what we hold about them, whether or not they were the one who booked. They do not need to go through the person who made the booking.
4.Why we use your information
We use personal information only for the purposes below. Where the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 requires it, we rely on your consent — given when you send us an enquiry or confirm a booking — and otherwise on the legitimate uses the Act permits, such as performing the service you asked for and meeting our legal obligations.
| What we do with it | What that uses | Why we are allowed to |
|---|---|---|
| Reply to your enquiry and give you a quote | Your contact details and journey choices | The request you made to us |
| Plan and operate your tour — route, vehicle, driver, guide, timings | Trip details, traveller details, your notes | Performing our agreement with you |
| Issue your darshan ticket, voucher and verification link | Lead guest name, package, date, pickup, headcount | Performing our agreement with you |
| Take payment and reconcile it | Amount, method, reference | Performing our agreement with you |
| Keep accounting and tax records | Booking and payment summary | Our legal obligations |
| Send your confirmation, ticket and trip reminders | WhatsApp number and name | Performing our agreement with you |
| Answer complaints, and defend a claim if one is made | The booking record and our correspondence | Legitimate use permitted by law |
| Understand how the website is used and improve it | Analytics events and session recordings | Legitimate use, and your consent — see the Cookie Policy |
| Ask you, once, for a review after you travel | Your name and number | Your consent — you may decline |
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, we do not run retargeting campaigns, and we do not carry any advertising pixel on the website.
5.Who else can see it
We do not sell your personal information, trade it, rent it, or share it for anyone else's advertising. It is shared only as set out here.
5.1 · Service providers who process it for us
| Provider | What they do for us | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Google (Firebase and Google Cloud) | Hosts the website; stores enquiries, bookings and images; runs our staff sign-in and background functions | India and other countries where Google operates |
| Google Analytics | Aggregate website statistics, including which contact buttons are used | Outside India, including the United States |
| PostHog | Website analytics and session recordings, with typed input masked | United States |
| Meta (WhatsApp) | Carries our booking conversations with you | Per Meta's own terms |
| Meta (Instagram) | Supplies our own posts to the feed on our home page; your browser loads those images from Meta's servers | Per Meta's own terms |
| Google Maps | The embedded map on temple and attraction pages, which loads from Google when you open one | Per Google's own terms |
These providers act on our instructions and are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes, except as described in their own terms for the services they operate — notably WhatsApp, Instagram and Google Maps, which are their products and not ours.
5.2 · People who need it to run your tour
- Your driver and guide receive only what the day requires: your name, a contact number, the pickup address and time, the headcount, and any note they need to plan around. They do not receive your payment details.
- Transport partners. Where a vehicle for your tour is supplied by a vetted partner rather than operated by us, that partner and its driver receive the same minimum.
- Hotels and vendors, and only if you ask us to arrange something — a room, a special pooja, a floral offering. We pass on what that booking needs and nothing more.
5.3 · Temple trusts
We do not pass your details to temples, and we are not asked to. If you ask us to help you book an official pooja or darshan pass that a temple trust runs in its own name, that booking needs a name and sometimes a contact number, and we will tell you before we share anything.
5.4 · Others
- Professional advisers — an accountant or a lawyer — under a duty of confidence.
- Authorities, where we are required by law to disclose: a court order, a lawful police request, or a tax or regulatory demand. We disclose the minimum required.
- A successor, if the business or part of it is transferred. Booking records would move with it and remain subject to this policy.
6.Your darshan ticket and its verification link
Every confirmed booking gets a pass number and a printed darshan ticket carrying a QR code. The code opens a page on our website that confirms the booking is genuine.
That page is readable by anyone holding the code or the link. It shows exactly nine things, all of which are already printed on the front of the ticket:
- the pass number;
- the lead guest's name;
- the package name;
- the date of travel;
- the pickup time and the pickup point;
- the number of guests, as a count — for example "4 Adults · 2 Children";
- whether the booking is confirmed or cancelled, and when it was issued.
It never shows your phone number, your email address, anything about payment, or the list of people travelling. The link uses a long random code rather than your pass number, precisely so that nobody can guess their way to somebody else's booking, and the page is excluded from search engines.
Because the pickup point and the lead guest's name are visible to anyone with the link, treat it as you would the ticket itself: do not post it publicly or in a group you do not control. Tell us if you would like your verification link retired early and we will do it.
7.Where your information is held, and transfers outside India
Our website, database and files are hosted on Google's infrastructure. Our analytics providers operate in the United States, and Meta's services operate globally. This means some of your personal information is stored or processed outside India, including in the United States.
Where that happens we rely on the contractual and security commitments those providers make to their customers, and on the transfers being permitted under section 16 of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. We do not transfer personal data to any country that the Central Government has restricted.
If you are reading this from outside India — many of our guests book from abroad for a family visit — your information will be sent to and held in India in order to arrange your tour.
8.How long we keep it
We keep personal information only for as long as it serves the purpose it was collected for, and then remove it.
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| An enquiry that was started but never finished | 12 months from the last activity on it |
| A completed enquiry that did not become a booking | 24 months from our last contact with you |
| Traveller details — the names, ages and genders of your group | Removed 12 months after the date of travel |
| The booking and payment summary, for accounts and tax | 8 financial years, as our tax obligations require |
| Your ticket verification record | Retired 12 months after the date of travel |
| WhatsApp conversations | On our phones while you remain a guest of ours; WhatsApp's own retention is governed by Meta |
| Website analytics events | Up to 12 months |
| Session recordings | Up to 30 days |
| A complaint file | 3 years after the complaint is closed |
You may ask us to delete your information sooner, and we will, unless we are required to keep it for tax or accounting purposes or need it for a complaint or claim that is still open. Where that applies we will tell you what we are keeping and why.
9.Session recordings, and the limits we put on them
One of our analytics tools can record a session — a playback of how a page was scrolled and clicked — so that we can see where the website confuses people. Two deliberate limits apply.
- Everything you type is masked. Text entered into any field is replaced before it leaves your browser. We can see that a field was filled in; we cannot see your name, your number, your email address or your notes in a recording.
- Your phone number is never used as your analytics identity. It would be the obvious way to join a recording to a booking, and we have deliberately not done it: an analytics product has no business holding a guest's phone number. Recordings carry only a random identifier.
Recordings are also switched off entirely when the site is run on our own machines during development. If you would rather not be recorded at all, the Cookie Policy explains how to switch analytics off.
10.Messages you will get from us — and the ones you will not
If you enquire or book, expect: our reply and quote, your booking confirmation, your ticket and voucher, a reminder shortly before your travel date, and answers to anything you ask.
After your tour we may ask you once whether you would leave a review. We will never offer money, a discount or an upgrade in exchange for one, we will never ask you to make it positive, and we will not ask again if you decline.
We do not send bulk promotional broadcasts, and we do not add you to a marketing list. If that ever changes we will ask you first. Either way, replying "stop" on WhatsApp ends non-essential messages immediately; we will still send what a booking you have already made requires.
11.Reviews, photographs and social media
The reviews on our website are shown with a first name and a city, and we publish them with permission. Some of the reviews currently displayed are illustrative samples shown while we build a verified set — this is disclosed in the Disclaimer.
We will not publish your name, your photograph, your review or a photograph you send us without asking you first. If you appear in a photograph on our website or our Instagram and would rather not, tell us and we will take it down.
The Instagram feed on our home page shows our own posts. Opening a page that displays it causes your browser to load those images directly from Meta's servers, which lets Meta see your IP address; the Cookie Policy covers this.
12.Children
We do not knowingly collect a child's personal information except as part of a family booking made by an adult. Where a child is travelling, the accompanying adult gives us the child's name, age and gender, and we use them only to plan the day and print the ticket.
We do not profile children, we do not track them for advertising, and we direct no advertising at them — we do not advertise on the website at all. If you believe a child's information has reached us in any other way, tell us and we will delete it.
13.How we protect your information
- The website is served only over an encrypted HTTPS connection.
- Enquiries submitted through the website cannot be read back by the public. The database permits a visitor's browser to submit an enquiry and nothing more; only a signed-in administrator can read one.
- The internal booking system sits behind a sign-in, is restricted to administrators, and is excluded from search engines at three levels.
- The ticket verification page can return only the nine fields listed in clause 6, because the list of publishable fields is enforced in code rather than left to whoever builds the page.
- Text typed into forms is masked before it reaches our analytics provider.
- Access within our team is on a need-to-know basis — a driver gets the day's details, not your payment record.
No website, phone or messaging service is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise. WhatsApp and telephone are our main channels and carry their own risks — a lost phone, a number that changes hands. If you think a conversation with us, or a ticket verification link, has been seen or used by someone who should not have it, tell us at once on +91 89764 23389.
If a breach of personal data occurs that affects you, we will inform you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires, tell you plainly what happened, and tell you what to do about it.
14.Your rights, and how to use them
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you have the right to:
- Know what we hold
- A summary of the personal data we hold about you, what we are doing with it, and who we have shared it with.
- Correct and complete it
- Have anything inaccurate corrected, anything incomplete filled in, and anything out of date updated — a changed phone number, a misspelt name on a ticket.
- Have it erased
- Have it deleted where we no longer need it for the purpose it was collected for and are not required by law to keep it.
- Withdraw your consent
- Withdraw consent you have given, at any time. We will stop the processing that relied on it. This does not undo what was lawfully done beforehand, and we may still need to keep records of a tour you have already taken.
- Nominate someone
- Nominate another person to exercise these rights on your behalf if you die or become unable to act.
- Be heard
- Have a grievance about your data dealt with by us, and escalate it if our answer does not satisfy you.
To use any of them, message +91 89764 23389 or write to contact@mumbaitempledarshan.com. Tell us what you want and, if you have travelled with us, your pass number. We may ask you one or two questions to be sure we are speaking to the right person — we would rather do that than hand your booking details to somebody else. There is no charge, and we will respond within 30 days.
If you are in a country whose law gives you further rights — for example the United Kingdom or the European Union, where several of our guests live — tell us and we will honour what applies to you, including a portable copy of your data and the right to object to particular processing.
15.No automated decisions about you
We do not make decisions about you by automated means. The website will suggest a package based on the answers you gave it — for example proposing the most comfortable circuit when you tell us you are travelling with elderly parents — but that is a suggestion for you to accept or ignore, not a decision. Every booking is confirmed by a person, and every price for an unusual group size is quoted by a person.
16.Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when what we do changes — a new tool, a new service, a change in the law. The revision date is shown at the top and bottom of this page. If a change materially affects how we use information you have already given us, we will tell you directly on the number or email address we hold for you rather than relying on you to notice.
17.Complaints and grievance redressal
If something has gone wrong, tell us first and give us a chance to put it right. Most complaints are resolved the same day on WhatsApp, and we would far rather fix a problem than defend one.
How to raise a complaint
- 17.1Message or call +91 89764 23389, or email contact@mumbaitempledarshan.com, with the words "Complaint" or "Grievance" in your message.
- 17.2Tell us your pass number (printed on your darshan ticket, in the form MTD-XXX-0000-00), the date of travel, and what went wrong.
- 17.3We will acknowledge your complaint within 48 hours and give you a reference for it.
- 17.4We will investigate and give you our decision, in writing if you ask for it, within 30 days of receiving the complaint.
If you are not satisfied with our response
You are free to escalate. Nothing in our policies takes away your right to approach a consumer forum under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, including the online portal of the National Consumer Helpline. For a complaint specifically about how we have handled your personal data, you may escalate to the Data Protection Board of India after first raising it with us, as the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 requires.
Grievance Officer, Mumbai Temple Darshan — reachable on +91 89764 23389 and at contact@mumbaitempledarshan.com. We publish the role rather than a personal name; ask and we will tell you who is handling your complaint.
18.How to reach us
