About Shree Siddhivinayak Temple
One of Mumbai's most iconic and revered temples, Shree Siddhivinayak is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The presiding deity's trunk turns to the right — an extremely rare and auspicious form believed to grant all wishes instantly. Devotees from across India and the world throng this temple daily, including Bollywood stars, politicians, and spiritual seekers.
History & Significance
Shree Siddhivinayak was built in 1801 by Laxman Vithu Patil and Deubai Patil — a childless couple who funded a temple in the hope it would bless childless women with children. The modest original shrine grew, over two centuries, into one of India's most visited and wealthiest temples. Its presiding deity, Siddhivinayak (the wish-fulfilling Ganesha), carries his trunk curved to the right — an extremely rare and auspicious iconographic form. A major renovation completed in 1990 gave the temple its present multi-tiered, gold-topped form, along with digital darshan tokens and airport-grade security.
