In Maharashtra, Shravan 2026 runs from Thursday 13 August to Friday 11 September — about a fortnight later than in North India, because the state follows the Amanta calendar. There are four Shravan Somvars: 17, 24 and 31 August, and 7 September. The first of them, 17 August, is also Nag Panchami, and 31 August is also Sankashti Chaturthi — two days when Mumbai's Shiva temples are at their fullest.

If you have seen a different start date online, it is probably the North Indian one. Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh follow the Amanta (Amavasyant) lunar calendar, which puts Shravan roughly fifteen days later than the Purnimanta calendar used across much of the north. Dates above are for Mumbai; re-check a Mumbai panchang before you fix travel, because tithis shift with moonrise.
Which Mumbai temples fill up in Shravan?
Mondays belong to Shiva, and in Shravan that pull is at its strongest. In Mumbai the weight of it lands on Babulnath, the hilltop Shiva temple above Girgaon Chowpatty. It is open roughly 5:00 AM to 10:30 PM daily, the morning aarti runs about 5:30–6:30 AM, and on a Shravan Monday you should expect a queue well beyond an ordinary weekday. Nearest stations are Charni Road and Grant Road on the Western line; the temple sits up a rise off Babulnath Road, so allow for the climb, particularly with elders.
- Babulnath, Girgaon — the Shravan Monday temple in south Mumbai. Go at opening or not at all on a Somvar.
- Walkeshwar & Banganga, Malabar Hill — an older, far quieter Shiva precinct around the Banganga tank. If Babulnath's queue defeats you, this is the alternative most visitors never think of.
- Mahalaxmi — not a Shiva temple, but minutes away, which is why most Shravan mornings in this part of the city end up covering both.
- ISKCON Juhu — not a Somvar temple at all, but Janmashtami falls inside Shravan on the Maharashtra calendar (Friday 4 September 2026), and Juhu is where the city goes for it. Celebrations run late into the night, with Dahi Handi across Mumbai the following day.

How do you fit a Somvar darshan around a working Monday?
Shravan Somvars are working Mondays for most of Mumbai, which is exactly why the temple is busiest at two ends of the day — before office and after it. The gap in the middle is real: if you can go between roughly 10 AM and 4 PM, the queue is usually at its most manageable. If you cannot, go at opening. A 5:30 AM arrival at Babulnath puts you inside for the morning aarti and back out before the commute starts.
