What to Wear to Mumbai's Temples — the Dress Code, Simply
One rule covers every temple on our routes: shoulders and knees covered, for everyone. No shorts, no sleeveless tops. Jeans and trousers are fine almost everywhere; footwear comes off at every shrine (there are counters). That's genuinely most of it — the per-temple details and the exceptions are below.

What should men and women wear for temple darshan?

Does any temple differ from the standard code?
- Siddhivinayak — the standard code, enforced: modest dress required, bags to the cloakroom, no photography in the inner shrine.
- Mahalaxmi & Mumbadevi — standard code; a scarf for the head is appreciated during aarti but not required.
- Babulnath — standard code; wear footwear you can manage on about 108 steps (or take the lift).
- ISKCON Juhu — welcoming to visitors and slightly relaxed, but modest dress keeps you comfortable at aarti; Govinda's restaurant has no code.
- Shirdi Sai Baba — no mandatory code, but modest dress is expected in the Samadhi Mandir; shoulders covered is the safe rule.
- Monsoon note (June–September): floors get slippery and wet clothes get cold in AC vehicles — carry a change of socks and a light towel.

Can I wear jeans to Mumbai temples?
Yes — full-length jeans with a sleeved top are accepted at every temple on our routes, including Siddhivinayak and Shirdi. It's shorts, short skirts and sleeveless tops that are turned away.
Is there a dress code at Shirdi?
No formal mandatory code, but modest dress — shoulders and knees covered — is expected inside the Samadhi Mandir and makes the ₹200-pass security check smoother.
Where do I leave my shoes at the temples?
Every major temple has a free or token-charge footwear counter (chappal stand) at the entrance. On our tours the driver manages the tokens — one less thing to hold with prasad in your hands.
Is photography allowed inside the temples?
Courtyards and outer areas generally yes; inner shrines no — Siddhivinayak, Mahalaxmi, Mumbadevi and Shirdi all ban photography in the inner shrine, and phones may need to be pocketed or deposited. ISKCON Juhu is the most photo-friendly campus.
